Clarence Angst indicated that there were 16 radio operators in his local ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Services) group. Additional operators were brought in when the need arose. He also referred to the student amateur radio group located at Grenville Christian College which is led by Charles (Chuck) Farnsworth. Grenville Christian College was also being used as a local shelter. Assistance was also brought in from the Renfrew area. The BARC manned stations in 4 shelters including the Grenville Christian School. Staff was provided on a rotational basis in order to keep the stations running non-stop. The Emergency Plan of Leeds and Grenville includes the local amateur radio operations as a resource which can be utilized in the event of a crisis. On Monday the 12th of January, BARC was requested by the county to set up a station in the county office. Since the office had no antenna, BARC installed an antenna to service its station. The stations were in operation from January 9 until January 19. |
